This directory contains some user-contributed builds of John the Ripper for Linux. Please note that your other alternatives include: building JtR from source on your own (easy and generally recommended to do on Linux), purchasing JtR Pro, or using the "john" package provided by your Linux distribution (many do, including Fedora, RHEL/CentOS, Debian, Ubuntu, Gentoo, and others - and indeed Openwall). The functionality, performance, and dependencies of different builds of JtR may differ (due to patches, build options, and build systems). Harris. They're statically linked, including to OpenSSL and to glibc. They require a Linux 2.6+ kernel. Some RPM packages are by Simon John. They're intended for 64-bit Fedora 13 and Fedora 14 (in fact, the Fedora 14 ones happen to work on Fedora 13 as well). All of them include OpenMP parallelization for some of the hash types. Please refer to Simon's posting to john-users for more detail: http://www.openwall.com/lists/john-users/2011/02/05/1 Some newer RPMs were by Stephen John Smoogen: http://www.openwall.com/lists/john-users/2011/08/04/1
